Members of the community met with a representative from U.S. Rep. Scott Murphy’s office on Nov. 18 to discuss the future of the Whitehall Armory.

Wastewater project gets funding boast

The village of Granville has received more good news regarding the wastewater treatment plant’s $1.3 million upgrade project.

The project, begun in the summer, is expected to be complete sometime after the new year and should cost the village considerably less money after receiving another grant.

Supervisors slash DPW position

By Keith Lobdell The Washington County Board of Supervisors has eliminated one position from the Department of Public Works while re-establishing funding to Cornell Cooperative Extension.

 

In two successive resolutions, the board voted Friday to eliminate the position of the public works manager/deputy superintendent of public works (Resolution 330) and reinstate funding to Cornell Cooperative Extension and other offices (Resolution 331).

Democratic incumbent Rodger Hurley’s lead held up Tuesday morning and what was a 15-vote edge on Nov. 3 became a 22-vote margin of victory following the counting of 71 absentee ballots Nov. 10.

Shutout ends season for Golden Horde

For the Granville Golden Horde, the season may have ended on a down note, but head coach Mario Torres was upbeat following Saturday’s Section II Class C tournament loss.

Looking back on a 7-2 season and the players who hit that mark two short seasons after going without a win for the entire season in 2007, Torres said: “They’re hurting right now. It’s a tough thing, but they’ve accomplished a lot and they’ve laid the groundwork for what we’ve got to do in the future. These guys have a lot to be proud of.”


 


Flu hits hard locally

Although the movie was about a fictional disease spread by a monkey, the opening scene from the 1995 film “Outbreak” shows how illness can spread among members of the public.

In a darkened movie theater with only the screen harshly illuminating the people inside, a single person sneezes. The spray and droplets fly several feet and contact a number of unsuspecting moviegoers.
