fall sports

Gotcha.

The power outage that hit parts of the village Monday afternoon zapped our server here. Lots of work lost. Yuck. Nothing quite so much fun as re-typing a story. All of the magic is lost

;)

Other stuff….

Got a chance to stop by the first day of practice for the Granville football team. I watched as the team did timed runs. Pretty wild. The coaches seemed impressed. They look like a fast team with lots of all around speed. Co-head coach Aaron Torres said he hoped to be able to take advantage of some of that speed but it remained to be seen if the team could get those plays down to the point they could be used during a game.

Winter and summer track obviously paying dividends here so hats off to head coach Jay Condon for all of his hard work. The football team now has a lot of these speedy track guys from state qualifier in the hurdles Mike Fiacco and a host of others I don’t yet know by sight. Coaches report good number – see what a little success can do for a program? – with about 50 guys out in cleats and helmets by the time the whistle blows on the first game. The team is missing some of the size it had last year ‘Fuji’ will be missed as will Foster, Macura.

It remains to be seen what will happen with other fall sports programs. New faces at boys soccer, field hockey and…oh, cross country being Steve Palmer, Jessica Sheldon and Lance Jordan respectively.

I’m curious to see if the World Cup has any effect on the soccer numbers. Was there a World Cup bump? In talking to a couple of athletes around town this summer I’ve heard of what looks like it will be some new faces on the pitch for 2010.
